of the epidermis
- Specialized
cells in the epidermis: melanocytes, Langerhans cells, Merkel cells
- Types
of pigments in epidermis – melanin, carotene, hemoglobin.
- Support
structures in dermis:
- Sweat
glands: eccrine, apocrine, ceruminus
- Sebaceous
glands
- Arrector
pili
- Pacinian
receptors and Merkel discs
- Hair
follicles
- Capillaries
– where they are found
- Hair
follicles – know how they are constructed – longitudinal view and cross
section.
- Know
what the roles of cells are in the follicle
- Be
able to label diagrams of skin and hair and nails
- Know
what blisters, calluses, fingerprints, cyanosis, acne is and what causes
each.
- Burns
– know the degrees of each type, the symptoms and signs, the rule of nines
for estimating severity of burns, the risks involved with burns
- Know
why hair thins.
- Know
types of skin cancers
- Know
purposes of skin
- Know
some examples of how skin changes with age.
