In groups of four (ie. your "Consumer Circles") you are responsible for making a group presentation to the class about mass marketing and popular culture. There will be three sections to your presentation: print advertisement, television commercial, and music video. You will be "deconstructing" each of these commercial mediums.
PRINT ADVERTISEMENT: Two persons will deconstruct a total of six print advertisements. This form (html) must be filled out completed for each print advertisement. Your form must be stapled to the ad which has been cut out of a magazine.
TELEVISION COMMERCIAL: One person must bring a VCR tape to class and be ready to show and deconstruct it in front of the class. This form (html) must be fully filled out; have it ready to hand to Mr. Geib as you begin your presentation.
MUSIC VIDEO: One person must bring a VCR tape to class and be ready to show a music video and deconstruct in while it is playing. This form (html) must be filled out prior to the class meeting. You will turn it in to Mr. Geib before you present.
Divide the work in your groups in a way that is fair yet caters to the strengths of individual group members. A fan of MTV, for example, might choose to do the music video portion; such a person can speak better to the intricacies of music video, or know of a favorite video that can be analyzed in detail. Another person without access to a VCR or television might choose to work with print media. Someone else might have the perfect TV ad in mind for deconstruction. It is up to the group members to work together and complete the assigned task. You must collaborate successfully in this project; you will fill out this group evaluation form immediately after your presentation.
You will be assigned a presentation date next week by Mr. Geib. All groups, however, will present on the week of November 26-30 (ie. the week after Thanksgiving). Be prepared!
