What is the ordering timeframe for
the 2009-2010 yearbook?
Order forms for the 2009-2010 yearbook were
made available on Monday, June 8, 2009. Order forms are
available online at the FTHS home page or on the Yearbook
web pages (see "Yearbook Order Form" link above).
Yearbook order forms are also sent home to current FTHS
students
via the
general
school
SUMMER mailing.
Order
forms
are also available in the FTHS front office and student
store on the first day of the 2009-2010 academic year.
There are two major deadlines for completing
yearbook orders. Early Bird pricing ends at 3:15 p.m.
on October 2, 2009. Regular pricing ends at 3:15 p.m.
on January 15, 2010. If we sell ALL planned books by the
January
15th
deadline, we will offer to increase our order numbers as
late as January 31, 2010. If we have additional copies
available after January 31, 2010, we will offer them for
sale to SENIORS on delivery day (TBA). NEW: After
the seniors have had a chance to purchase a yearbook, we
will allow
other students to submit their names for a drawing for
priority
in purchasing the few remaining books in the days after
delivery.
How many yearbooks do we usually
order?
For a school population of 950 students,
we initially place an order for 675 yearbooks. In the
2008-2009 school year, we pre-sold 695 yearbooks before
the January 31st publisher deadline. At that time, we increased
our order to 725 books. Our publishing company
sent us an overrun of additional
books with our final shipment. We had 750 books available
for sale in 2008-2009 and SOLD EVERY SINGLE COPY.
Why doesn't the school order enough
yearbooks so that every student on campus can purchase
one?
The FTHS yearbook budget is self-sustaining,
meaning that the sales income for the yearbooks, senior
yearbook ads and senior panorama photo orders pay for everything
relating to the production of the school yearbook. The
publishing company charges us for every book we order,
whether we sell it or not. We cannot send back unsold copies
for reimbursement. If we order an extra 100 books and do
not sell them all, we pay for them anyway. Good business
practice is to purchase as many books as you think you
can actually sell, but it is a guessing game with expensive
consequences if one guesses wrong.
Can more yearbooks be ordered from the company
after initial order is shipped and received?
No. The publishing company prints the cover
of our yearbook in the fall. The publishing company begins
to print sections of our pages in late winter through
early spring as we submit them on our deadlines. In late
spring,
the books
are
assembled,
sewn and
packaged for shipment. Our deadline for increasing our
yearbook order is January 31st. Our deadline for final
submission of pages is late March. It takes many man hours
to set up the equipment for printing, assembling and packaging
one yearbook (which is why they cost so much in the first
place) and only makes sense when running a bulk number
of books.
How do we determine "delivery day"
and what happens on "delivery day"?
Many events influence the selection of delivery
day. Our publishing company gives us a final shipment date
based on our page submission deadlines. Our book usually
ships from the plant on the Friday before Memorial Day.
When the books physically arrive, it takes a few days to
open boxes, verify receipt of the correct books, and re-organize
the books based on our distribution plan. When we are ready,
we ask the FTHS administration for permission to cancel
FIRE for a day in order to give out the books. With input
from our administration, yearbook advisor, student store
manager and teaching staff, a date is chosen. Announcements
are placed in the school bulletin and on the school website.
On the given date, books are either delivered to third
period classes for distribution or delivered to classrooms
based on an alpha by last name map where students can pick
them up during the long lunch period.
Do you hold books for students with
monetary obligations?
It depends. We try to help out our FTHS administration
and faculty by allowing the student store to hold pre-ordered
yearbooks for students with monetary obligations (e.g.,
class fees, textbooks not returned, athletic uniforms,
etc.). The student store sends out reminders to all students
on
the
obligations
list in the week and days before yearbook distribution
and sales to allow time for obligations to be met.
Does anyone get priority in purchasing
a book on delivery day?
In 2008-2009 we had enough "extra"
copies to offer seniors priority in purchasing a yearbook.
Each affected senior was listed on the school website
and received at least 2 personalized reminder call slips
in the week and the days before yearbooks were made available.
It turned out that approximately 50 books were available
for sale to
other
grade
level
students
after
that priority
window
closed. If the numbers work out again in 2009-2010,
we will offer a similar opportunity to seniors. NOTE: After
the seniors have had a chance to purchase a yearbook, we
will allow other students to submit their names for a drawing
for priority in purchasing any remaining books in the
days after our initial delivery date.
What are "Senior Ads"? Who can purchase
one? How does one purchase a "Senior Ad"?
Parents, friends and family of Foothill seniors
can purchase senior ad space in the yearbook in which to
place a personal message and a collection of images.
We have
half, quarter and eighth page ad spaces available
(see "Senior Ad Order Form" link above).
Senior ad order forms will be made available
on Monday, June 8, 2009. Senior ad order forms are available
online at the FTHS
home
page or on the Yearbook web pages (see "Senior Ad
Order Form" link above). Senior
ad order forms will also be sent home with current FTHS
junior students at the end of the year. Senior
ad order
forms are also available in the FTHS front office and student
store
on the first day of the 2009-2010 academic year.
There are two major deadlines for completing
senior ad orders. Early Bird pricing ends at 3:15 p.m.
on October 2, 2009. Regular pricing ends at 3:15 p.m.
on November 20, 2009 - this is different from
the yearbook order deadline.
How do I order a Senior Panorama photo?
The senior class
will be invited to wear their senior shirts and take a
group photo called the "Senior Panorama". Students may
order and pay in the Student Store for an 10x20 color copy
of
that
photo - samples will be available in D104, F104 and F108.
This
year
Senior Pride Day is Friday, October 16th. We plan to
take the Senior Panorama photo before the events planned
for Senior Pride Day. We will be offering 10x20 color
copies of the Senior Panorama photo for sale via the FTHS
Student
Store for $12 per copy. Orders must be placed no later
than November 13th for delivery to student before Winter
Break.
What photography studio can be used
for the Senior Formal Portrait section?
Due to contractual sponsorship obligations,
only Senior Formal Portraits from Visual Photography in
Camarillo are allowed to be presented in the Senior
Formal Portrait section of the FTHS yearbook. A minimal sitting fee is charged
by the photography company and you do NOT have to purchase
photo packages from Visual in order to have the portrait
placed in the yearbook.
Visual
sends us a CD with all photographed FTHS seniors in early
December. We complete and submit these pages before Winter
Break, so you must have your senior formal portrait sitting
appointment in
late
spring,
summer
or
early fall
of 2009. Please call Visual Photography at (805) 482 3533
to schedule your appointment. If you do not sit for your
portrait by the deadlines set by Visual (October 9, 2009
for 2009-2010), our yearbook staff will take a photo of
the affected seniors to be used elsewhere
in
the senior
section of the yearbook.
How and when do I submit a "Senior Baby"
photo?
Our yearbook staff advertises for the submission
of senior baby photos in the fall. Photos may
be submitted to Yearbook-D104 in hard copy for scanning
or
digitally at
high-resolution by email to conni.carr@venturausd.org or
using the online image
sharing site at Josten's (see flyer for
details). For 2009-2010, senior baby photos must be submitted
no later than Thursday, September 10, 2009.
How and when do I submit a "FTHS
Siblings" photo?
Our yearbook staff advertises for the submission
of FTHS sibling photos in the fall. Photos
may be submitted to Yearbook-D104 in hard copy for scanning
or digitally at high-resolution by email to conni.carr@venturausd.org or
using the online image
sharing site at Josten's (see flyer for
details). We will also offer a few opportunities (Tuesday,
September 1 and Thursday, September 3 during lunch in D104)
during the regular school day for siblings to report TOGETHER
to have a photo taken.
NOTE: FTHS Sibling photos
are meant to be pictures of CURRENT Foothill
students only - all siblings in photo must be attending
Foothill together in the same year - no alumni, no future
students. For example, you have a grade 9 daughter and
grade 11 son
that
both
attend FTHS during the same school year. This doesn't include
FTHS alumni nor incoming 8th grade students nor an FTHS
student with their baby brother from Poinsettia, etc.
