The FTHS Communications Academy, 2007
Sophomores or juniors with a passion for or interest
in the career areas of Design & Production or
Performance are welcome to
join the FTHS Communications Academy (Overview
PowerPoint Presentation).
Communications Academy students will:
- demonstrate a depth of study by enrolling
and successfully completing a series of courses (minimum of 60
credits) in their specific strand of interest (Strand
Tracking Form),
- perform at a high level of academic achievement (3.0
GPA with 10 credits or less at C-level) in their strand of interest,
- participate in a variety of career-relevant experiences (field
trips, guest speakers, job shadows, internships) and authentic
assessments (portfolios, competitions, shows, displays
and certifications),
- and complete a future goals and reflection paper.
The process starts with attendance at a General
Information
Meeting and completion of a Statement
of Intent.
Academy mentors will meet with each student to review transcripts
and create an academic
plan that addresses graduation and A-G requirements
in addition to Communications Academy strand coursework.
Qualified seniors earn a Certificate (60-65 credits), Certificate
with Merit (70-85 credits) or Certificate with Distinction (90+
credits) at Senior Awards Night; a Communications
Academy
pin/cords (TBA) at graduation; and notation of academy completion
on their high school transcripts.
