Although the 20th century has brought about many advances in medicine, there is also a dark side to advances in medicine. This "dark side" is one that must be brought to light in order that we, as human beings, respect the humanity and the right to medical treatment of all people. To abuse the trust between patient and doctor, and for a doctor to use knowledge that was meant to heal to inflict pain, is to break one of the most sacred trusts we have in our society.
